How to update Apple HomePod and HomePod Mini

Apple’s suite of mobile devices and adjacent devices constantly need to be updated, even the HomePod Mini. There are big annual releases, like the upcoming iOS 16 and its variants for HomePod, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. But in between, Apple releases regular updates to add new features and fix bugs.

In the case of the HomePod and HomePod Mini, updates are less flashy and don’t always add noticeable new features. But these updates are still there and they are still being pushed out. So how do you update HomePod?

Update HomePod manually or automatically

The good news is that you don’t have to worry about updating your HomePod. Automatic updates should It is enabled, but if it is not, you will have to apply the update manually.

Fortunately, you enable this feature in the exact same menu as the manual update application. Here’s how to find it.

  1. open the home app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. If you are using iOS 15, tap File Home icon. If you are using iOS 16, tap three points menu button.
  3. tap on system update.
  4. To enable automatic updates, make sure the switches for any listed HomePods are turned on.
  5. If there is a manual update, you will see a notification about it. To apply just click Modernization.

The update process will take some time, so don’t worry if nothing appears. When the update is in progress on the speaker, the light on top will rotate white.
