Michigan Wolverines fans were convinced JJ McCarthy should be the quarterback for the rest of the season. The world of college football agreed.
Michigan football fans have been waiting all season to see who would win the starting assignment between Cady McNamara and JJ McCarthy. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has revealed that he will start McNamara in week two and McCarthy in week two, then decide who will be the starter for the remainder of the season after that.
In the first week, McNamara completed 8 of 16 pass attempts for 136 yards and one touchdown against the Colorado State Rams.
It didn’t take McCarthy long to shine a light on the stat sheets against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. In fact, he did it in one half. Michigan fans and the college football world were convinced that McCarthy was the quarterback the team should move forward with.

McCarthy got off to the best start imaginable. On his first game drive, he hit quarterback Roman Wilson on a deep pass for 42 yards. Just take a look for yourselves.
Next, he hit Ronnie Bell for a touchdown pass from 13 yards to give Michigan a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. To close out the inning, McCarthy dialed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Cornelius Johnson to give the Wolverines a massive 42-0 lead to enter the locker room.
In the first half, McCarthy nearly perfected the passing game. He completed 11 of his 12 passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns, and zero any interceptions. McCarthy’s only shortcoming came in a drop by CJ Stokes.
McCarthy may be just a half-football on his first start to the 2022 season, but he has some great support to earn his first quarterback job.
