Besides announcing a new streaming device and an update to its smart platform, Roku has also announced a new wireless subwoofer called the Roku Wireless Bass that will work seamlessly with Smart Soundbar, Streambar, and Wireless Speakers.
Priced at $129 starting in mid-October, the Roku Wireless Bass (announced alongside the new Roku Express (2022) and Roku OS 11.5 is a slightly smaller version of the $179 Roku Wireless Subwoofer the company announced in 2019.
According to Roku, despite being smaller than a wireless subwoofer, Wireless Bass still produces “deep, dynamic bass” without the need for a wired connection to any other speakers.
The smaller size, Roku says, will make bass easier to place around the room and should be able to keep it connected to the rest of your audio settings from 30 feet away.
Roku’s complete audio lineup is surprisingly affordable
While the original Roku wireless subwoofer wasn’t exactly what I thought was pricey, the Roku Wireless Bass is somewhat cheaper and can be a good starting point for people looking to build a complete wireless sound system without breaking a tighter budget.
If you take into account the $99 Roku Streambar sticker price and put a pair of Roku wireless speakers for $149, you’re looking at less than $400 for a wireless 4.1 system — which isn’t bad at all.
Without hearing it for ourselves, we’re not sure Roku Wireless Bass would be able to hold a candle to the larger Roku wireless subwoofer, but people who want a little extra sound for a smaller room might appreciate a more compact version for $50 less.
