With Dak Prescott expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a hand injury, the Dallas Cowboys need a new signal caller, and there’s a familiar option.
Sunday Night football couldn’t have been worse for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. a thumb injury to star quarterback and lost 19-3 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prescott sustained the injury late in the game, and team owner Jerry Jones confirmed the news after the match that Prescott will need surgery and will be out for 6-8 weeks.
Now that begs the question, who should step in as the team’s signal caller? There are many options, including backups Cooper Rush and Will Grier and potential commercial candidates like Jimmy Garoppolo.
But another option may be overlooked, and he currently resides in Pennsylvania. Yes, that would be Mason Rudolph of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It would be a low-risk move in terms of what to give up for, and he has some familiarity with the future of James Washington’s broad Cowboys dating back to their college days in Oklahoma.

For a team with high expectations, including winning the division and returning to the playoffs, losing a quarterback like Dak Prescott does nothing but badly destroy those hopes. However, if they can find a suitable midfielder to help steer the ship while Prescott is out, all is not lost.
Sure, Rudolph doesn’t accurately jaw dropping, but he played in that league, and he’s young, and he put in a reasonably average performance. 16 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and a passing rating of 80.9 isn’t the worst thing that could happen, and Dallas would be wise to take a chance.
It wouldn’t all cost much, given how Rudolph isn’t used in Pittsburgh now, and Dallas needs a signal caller.
Rush did a good job last year in Minnesota, but how long can something like this last? Consistency is critical at the quarterback, and the Cowboys need to find an appropriate answer for Prescott and fast. If not, the season may be over before it even begins.
