Eric Jones, a cartoonist whose miscellaneous work included art for DC, IDW, and First Second, has passed away. He was 51 years old. Jones’ death was first announced by Landry Q. Walker, Jones’ friend and frequent collaborator, via social media. popvers He was the first to report the news in detail, and according to the artist’s family, they believe that he died in his sleep due to complications from sleep apnea. At the time of his death, he was working on the second volume of Infinite Supernova Adventuresthe first volume of it – another collaboration with Walker – was titled Pepper page saves the universe! “For my part, I’d like to take this moment to highlight who Eric has been in the industry. He’s worked himself out over and over again, creating stories for several well-established properties as well as his own work on love books,” Walker told Popverse in their obituary. “He was an artistic perfectionist I had never seen before. He reinvented his artistic style over and over again, tailoring his approach to creating new and unique calligraphic works for every project he touched.”
Walker is believed to have sketched the flyer for the first ever live Green Day show, and years later will work on concept art for American idiot.
