The upgraded MacBook Pro with M2 Pro/M2 Max chipset is almost ready according to a new report, which makes us hope the new models will appear at Apple’s rumored October event.
DigiTimes (Opens in a new tab) Apple’s supply chain partners are allegedly preparing for a production slowdown of the current 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as they prepare to ship rumored new versions of these two laptops. This fits with rumors that mass production of the new MacBooks began late last month.
Apple’s AirPods partners seem to be doing the same with the first generation AirPods Pro, in preparation for the launch of AirPods Pro 2 later in September.
The new MacBook Pros are believed to use enlarged versions of the Apple M2 chip, ideal for users who want something more powerful than the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 or MacBook Air M2. However, other rumors of this year’s premium MacBook Pro suggest that they won’t get many other upgrades.
Aside from the new M2 Pro chipset, we’ll likely see the same design and feature set as the 2021 models. That’s fine in some ways because it probably means excellent battery life, tiny 120Hz LED screens, and a host of ports, but if you’re hoping to get Extra features, it looks like you’re out of luck. Check out our guide on whether or not to wait for the MacBook Pro M2 Pro for more details.
As mentioned earlier, there is a rumored Apple event for October that is likely to focus on iPads and Macs. That seems more likely now that Apple’s September event came and went without any mention of new tablets or computers. There were rumors that the new M2 MacBooks might not arrive until 2023, which means we might wait until Apple’s usual spring product presentation to see them instead.
There’s more to look forward to than just the new MacBooks Pro. Rumors also suggest that the iPad Pro 2022, the regular iPad 2022, and other new Macs like the M2 Mac mini may appear at the October event as well.
