She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Marvel fans have been seeing ghosts – Ghost Rider, to be exact. Episode 4 of She-Hulk focuses on Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as Wong (Benedict Wong), who is looking to prevent a former mystical arts student named Donny Blaze (Rhys Coiro) from using actual magical knowledge in his stage work. The powers that be at Marvel Studios and the makers of She-Hulk had to know what they were doing there: “Johnny Blaze” is of course the host of Marvel Comics’ original Ghost Rider.
So, was ‘Donnie Blaze’ introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than just a work of comedy magic? Or does she take a page from WandaVision and throw another fake “Ralph Boehner” our way?
Reese Koiro was interviewing TV inside He was directly asked whether or not “Donny Blaze” had anything to do with Johnny Blaze, The Ghost Rider. Cuero wasn’t entirely willing to drop the idea, although he couldn’t confirm it either:
“Names are powerful…” Rhys Koiro quipped. “And it’s no small feat to be named Blaze. It’s so much fun, but who knows?”
Eagle-eyed Marvel fans have started noticing Donny Blaze’s presence during the show’s marketing campaign, which apparently raised some Ghost Rider questions. During the She-Hulk premiere, spin-off writer Jessica Gao addressed what Donny Blaze means to the MCU:
“It’s not Ghost Rider – his name is Donny Blaze,” Zhao told Deadline at the premiere. “He’s a wizard named Donnie Blaze. This is just a wizard who picked a stage name that he thought would get a lot of attention. He’s a big character in his episode but he’s not Ghost Rider.”
Ghost Rider is one of the last dangling threads in the Marvel Universe that has yet to fully appear in the MCU. After Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider films in the 2000s, SHIELD TV agents introduced the modern Marvel Comics series Ghost Rider in Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna). However, the MCU is just beginning to open the doors of the superhero with series like Moon Knight – but more quickly is on the way.
Marvel panel revealed at D23 that Werewolf By Night is coming this Halloween; Moon Knight season 2 is a hopeful bet. Blade will bring the supernatural MCU to the big screen… Basically, there are plenty of reasons Marvel fans should hope for the MCU Midnight Sons – including Ghost Rider. Marvel Studios even has a big star already campaigning for the part: Ryan Gosling.
