‘House of the Dragon’ star: Fans choose their favorite character is ridiculous

Aside from the politics of Westerosi and fire-breathing monsters, HBO’s House of the Dragon plots the death of the friendship between Young Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) and Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), who is married to Rhae’s father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), and threatens her friend’s inheritance. Her newborn son.

As Alcock pointed out in an interview with nylonHouse of the Dragon highlights the yes, the patriarchy, yes, the misogyny, but also the inner misogyny that these two women are forced to confront. They are forced to contradict each other because of the choices of men.

Since the characters are set in opposition due to decisions made by their parents, Alcock added that she finds it “paradoxical” that the show’s fan base—mostly men—is simultaneously pitting the characters against each other.

“What I found very funny is that the fan base puts the actors, young Alicent and Young Rhaenyra, at odds with each other, choosing who is the best, also mostly with men’s decision. So I think it’s just really ironic,” Alcock said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Alcock teased what she’d like to do after House of the Dragon, saying she wanted to act in something “completely different” from the “Game of Thrones” prequel.

“Ultimately, I don’t want to get into another big series or a big series,” she said. “I want to do something very intimate and personal.”

Since there will be a big jump in “House of the Dragon,” Alcock and Carey will be replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, respectively, after the upcoming episode on Sunday.
