talk with ComicBook.comPlec and MacIntyre talked about making vampire academyand what fans are most excited about to see — and what worries them most when the series’ story of friendship and romance spins into a world of franchise, glamor, vampire society, and more premieres on Peacock on September 15.

“I’m a big reader of books, I’m a fan of novels, I’m a fan of YA and I read it for pleasure and choice, and I’ve always done that. And so, every time I read anything, of course, the storyteller inside of me says, ‘Oh, what if I could make Is this like a movie? What if I could turn this into a TV show?” And when I first read The Vampire Academy, the entire series, I loved it. I was thrilled to take the opportunity to do a show right then and there. But no one really cared what I liked or disliked, and neither Someone was knocking on my door asking what kind of TV I was ready to take out into the world. So, I had to wait for someone to believe it about me and ask the question,” Blake said. “If there is one thing you can do that you haven’t had the chance to achieve yet, what is it? Because vampire academy was the answer. And so, Peacock, Universal, gave me that opportunity. I did not think twice about this fact. I remember feeling like there would be some hate there. That’s like, “She can’t do anything but write vampires.” But okay, hate. Because what I’m ultimately saying in my mind is a story about friendship, about love, about community, about community and trying to present a view of the community that is very meaningful, timely, and present. Say something simple about the world we live in or the world we want to live in.”

As for MacIntyre, she said she had initially read the books at the same time earlier, but when she came back and revisited the series, she felt like it was more time for her now than ever.

“Well, it’s funny because we read it at the same time, because we were on vacation together a million years ago Vampire Diaries. Thus, I didn’t realize I had read the entire book series. I thought I read one of them. “I’ve got this now,” McIntyre said when Julie said. “I was like, I’ll admit, I was like, ‘Oh, more vampires? ‘ And she would say, ‘Remember the royal court, there’s some political backstabbing, there’s some stuff.’ And I said, Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute. Right. I forgot.’ Then I went back and read it, and the world is so rich and abundant and there’s a lot going on. And then of course it’s segregation, it’s a class system that is eroding at the edges and it can’t go on. It’s unequal, it’s unfair. And it’s tearing apart the system. And I said, “Well, I can’t It’s timely.” And so, I felt like being able to tell that story in the kind of literature to get it under the radar, not to be on the nose, kind of blunt force storytelling. And just to ask some questions that way with my vampires The blood, the castles, the fighting, the romance and all of that, it just felt like a really great opportunity.”

But while the series has both Plec and MacIntyre excited to take one, Plec has said one thing is tense and excited about it: The series deals with Dmitriy Belikov, played by Kieron Moore.

“I’m more nervous,” Blake said. “I know you didn’t ask, but I’m going to drive that up to meet Dmitri because he’s a far cry from the man described in the books.” “But I’m also more excited for them to meet Dmitri because he’s all I wish Dmitry was touchy about and he’s, he’s spiritual and fierce and he has a lot of love to give but he just doesn’t know how to give it. And it’s sexy, I mean, it’s all right. So, I’m excited about it. “

McIntyre said she was also very excited about the cast, but also about the details of the world they built with the series, including the language built by Dave Livingston who previously created Dothraki for Game of thrones.

“I’m so excited because it’s a great cast, crew from all over the world, some really beautiful performances and great chemistry between everyone. But I’m excited for people to see this whole world building. Like we said, you’ve never seen this before,” McIntyre said. “There’s old and new. You have people in scenes that you like, ‘Is this the 15th century?'” And then, you’re like, there’s a computer and what’s the thing. And building, as I said, we are building, we have our own language by the man who created the Dothraki, Dave Livingston. And we have our own currency, we have all the world, every minute detail is built in and it’s unique. It’s something very special. And in the books, and the castle, and the royal things on one side of the country, and the schools on the other. Here, it’s all together. And so, you have this story that burns and heats and heats right next to each other. That’s sexy. I’m very interested in hearing what people have to say. “

From executive producers Julie Plec & Marguerite MacIntyre comes a story of friendship, romance and danger. In a world of privilege and magic, the friendship of two girls amazingly transcends their different chapters as they prepare to complete their education and enter the vampire society. One as a powerful royal, and the other as a half-vampire guard trained to protect from the savage Strygoy who threatens to tear their community apart. That is, if royal infighting didn’t do the job first.
