In theaters today Pearlprequel to T West XAlong with the movie officially hitting theaters, the first single from the movie’s soundtrack has been released online. From A24 Films, both X And the Pearl Are some of the more ambitious projects developed by the studio, such as X It was initially conceived as a stand-alone effort, although during the quarantine to film the movie, West and star Mia Goth collaborated so heavily on the background of Pearl’s character that they wrote a screenplay and shot the Pearl prequel in secret. Tyler Bates penned the scores for both films, both of which require different skill sets to match the films’ different undertones, with Pearl Seeing him seek help from Tim Williams. With just six weeks to put together an orchestra of 68 people, Bates brought in frequent collaborator Timothy Williams, who worked with the composer. Guardians of the GalaxyTo help him audition for musicians, build the orchestra, rehearse over four days in Nashville, and record the score.
“In mid-century melodrama style,” West shared in a statement. Tyler Bates created a sweeping, rowdy score based on the strings that lets the viewer know from the opening credits that… Pearl It won’t be a dim or quiet movie. I told him, “Let’s do a romantic, melodramatic, old-school music score for this movie.”
He continued, “It wasn’t the first time I had used live instruments in a movie – but it was the first time I had a full orchestra. It was amazing. Tyler and Tim really hit it out of the park. The score is pretty much one of the central characters in the movie And that was important.”
“Te voiced the musical style of this movie with us prior to filming,” Bates and Williams shared. “We knew the music was going to be based on an ‘old Hollywood’ approach, something we love to do stylistically. This was a rare opportunity to write a lyrical note where the main theme permeates the music throughout with a myriad of emotion and psychological dynamics from start to finish” .
The film is described as, “Director T West returns with another chapter of a twisted world X, in this stunning follow-up to this year’s most popular horror movie. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must take care of her sick father under the bitter and arrogant watch of her devout mother. Longing for a life as glamorous as seen in the movies, Pearl finds her ambitions, temptations, and oppressions all collide in this stunning, artistically inspired, original story.
