Only on 13: Couple chase down, ram robbers’ getaway vehicle after hold up at Wells Fargo bank in southeast Houston!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Shocking video clip appears on a cell phone obtained by ABC13 when two robbery victims take matters into their own hands.

Houston police said the couple chased after the suspect, crashing into their own car multiple times.

Kenya Hernandez and her family couldn’t believe what they saw while driving on Almeida Genoa Road near Minnesota Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon. She thought they were just watching a fender, but then she saw one of the vehicles crash into the other until they both came to a complete stop on the medium.

That’s when she decided to pull out her phone and start recording.

“We really thought it was a car accident and maybe someone was trying to get away because they didn’t have insurance. It was just crazy. I told my sister-in-law, ‘Pull your window down.'” I need to sign up,” Hernandez said. “My mother-in-law is like, ‘We should go. You never know if they have a gun. “

But it wasn’t a coincidence. HPD said a husband and wife were leaving Wells Fargo with a backpack and wallet when they both got robbed. They reportedly saw the suspect take off in a white Chevy Equinox and decided to chase them.

“I certainly wouldn’t go after the suspect,” Hernandez said. “But, I understand, sometimes in a moment of frustration, you’d say, ‘We’re not going to let this guy get away with it.'”

ABC13 records show that this case is at least one of four burglaries that occurred in or near Wells Fargo at 10009 Almeda Genoa Road in southeast Houston.

“It’s not safe,” she said. “Something has to be done. Just because this is a mall, a family shopping mall, you never know what situation you might be put in that day.”

Investigators said two people got out of the back seat of the getaway car and escaped. The driver stayed but claimed his car had been stolen. No charges have been brought, but they are investigating him as a possible suspect.
