PS VR games will not be compatible with the upcoming Sony PS VR2

Although virtual reality has been around for several years, it has yet to be discovered despite excellent performances from Meta and Sony. At the top of the year, Sony confirmed that it was working on the next generation of virtual reality glasses, the PS VR2. As we get closer to its release, the company has provided quite a bit of info, first showing off its design and then giving those curious a look at the PS VR 2 experience. While things have been looking pretty good so far, some bad news has surfaced about the device, which may affect many PS users. Existing VR.

During the official PlayStation podcast, PlayStation Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino was asked if the original PlayStation VR titles could be played on the upcoming device. Unfortunately, the answer is no, PS VR games will not be compatible with PS VR2. He went on to say that the titles are not compatible because the PS VR2 was designed to deliver the next generation experience. PS VR2 features advanced features such as the all-new haptic feedback controller with adaptive triggers, inside-out tracking, eye tracking, HDR and 3D audio. Because of these advanced features, PS VR2 game development is quite different from PS VR game development.

There is no doubt that the news will come as a shock to current PS VR users. While there are titles that will work with the PS VR2, it seems, for the most part, that backwards compatibility won’t be high on Sony’s priority list. From now on, unless something changes, those who want to continue playing PS VR games will need to keep their current hardware. Sony has yet to announce a firm price or release date for the PS VR2, only stating that it will arrive in early 2023.
