Scott Bakula will not appear in reboot ‘Quantum Leap’

Scott Bakula, who famously played Dr. Sam Beckett on the 1989 original series “Quantum Leap,” posted a statement on Instagram confirming he won’t be involved in the upcoming NBC reboot series.

“This is the simple version of what happens with the reboot of Quantum Leap and me: I have no connection to the new show, either in front of or behind the camera,” Bakula posted on Instagram.

Speculation about Bakula’s participation in the 2022 revival has surrounded the show since the pilot episode was green-lit in January of this year, although there was no communication about Bakula’s role until the actor released the new statement.

Bakula continued, “Since the show has always been near and dear to my heart, it was a very difficult decision to pass the project, a decision that confused and upset many fans of the original series.”

The original series ran for five seasons from 1989 to 1993, with a mysterious series finale that left Bakula’s character’s fate up in the air. One of the final title cards from the end stated: “Sam Beckett never came home,” fueling fan speculation about his participation in the revival. The new series, which premieres September 19 on NBC, is set to continue the original series 30 years later, with a new cast headed by Raymond Lee, Ernie Hudson and Anastasia Antonia.

Pakula ended his statement about not participating in the new series with a hopeful and supportive message to the revival cast and crew: “I’m crossing my fingers because this new cast and crew are lucky enough to benefit from the magic that drove the original film. A quantum leap in the hearts and minds of generations past and present.”
