This delightful yet contrasting romantic comedy is based on the real-life courtship of comedian Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V Gordon, who penned the script together. Nanjiani plays a version of himself, while Zoe Kazan plays Emily.
Their budding romance was interrupted first by Kumail’s expectation of an arranged marriage to a Pakistani woman of his parents’ choice, and then by Emily’s severe illness. Camille wants to get her back, but to do so, he first has to win over her parents (Ray Romano and Holly Hunter). We may know how it ends, but the journey to get there is worth seeing

Jane Austen is one of the most adaptable authors, and it’s easy to see why. Her novels are admirably clever in their depictions of human weaknesses. The dark, hard-edged adaptation of Austen’s early missionary work Lady Susan features a magnetic performance of Kate Beckinsale as a recently widowed lady who uses her magic (and some other, more sinister tactics) to woo a new husband. His only qualification is that he must be wealthy.
Her plan is complicated by the fact that she is in a relationship with a married man. It’s amazing watching Beckinsale increase her courtship power as she pursues an ignorant suitor. And Chloe Sevigny is perfect as the sweet American girlfriend of Mrs. Susan.

Riz Ahmed delivers a powerful Academy Award-nominated performance as Robin, a metal drummer who is beginning to lose his hearing. It’s a devastating development, because Robin’s identity is related to playing and listening to music. His hearing loss throws his whole life out of control, threatening his years of sobriety.
His girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) is concerned about his possible relapse into addiction and is screened at a rehab center for the deaf, as he grapples with his new normal with the support of Captain Joe (Paul Rassy, also an Oscar nominee) and fellow community members.

This old-fashioned romantic melodrama calls to mind the classics of Douglas Circus made during the golden age of Hollywood. Instead of Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman, the two black actors lead.
Set in the summer of 1957 in New York City, the story follows saxophonist Robert (Namdi Asomuga) and record store worker Sylvie (Tessa Thompson). When he takes a part-time job at the store, they become friends. Soon their relationship turns passionate. But their paths diverge when Sylvie pursues a career in television. Later, when they get back into each other’s orbit, they discover that their feelings haven’t diminished at all.

In his younger days, Val Kilmer was a clearly talented actor. He was also clearly very intense, mercurial and tough – the tormented quintessential artist. This documentary traces Kilmer’s life and career, using footage he and his brothers took. It’s touching to see clips of the rising actor in films like Top Gun, interspersed with interviews where the older Kilmer talks through a voice box after a bout with throat cancer (as he does in a short film in Top Gun: Maverick).
Don’t expect any harsh clips about his alleged abusive behavior in groups. This is a totally nostalgic document and an emotional journey down memory lane for Kilmer.
