Henry Silva death: Prolific actor known for roles in ‘Ocean’s 11’ and ‘Manchurian Candidate,’ dies at 95!

New York — Henry Silva, the prolific actor best known for playing bad guys and tough guys in “The Manchurian Candidate”, “Ocean’s Eleven” and other movies, has died at the age of 95.

Silva’s son Scott Silva told Variety that his father died on Wednesday of natural causes at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California.

A native of New York City, Silva dropped out of school as a teenager in the 1940s. The following decade he was accepted into the Actors Studio, where among his fellow students were Shelley Winters and Ben Gazzara. He continued a long and busy career in film and television, with hundreds of credits, before retiring from acting in 2001.

He had great roles on stage and screen in the 1950s as a drug dealer in “A Hatful of Rain” and supporting parts in two of Frank Sinatra’s most famous films, both from the early 1960s: “Ocean’s Eleven,” the Las Vegas heist film that was Sinatra’s show. Dean Martin and other Rat Pack members; The Manchurian Candidate is a Cold War thriller about brainwashing and the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate that starred Sinatra, Lawrence Harvey, and Janet Lee. (In his last film appearance, Silva was cast in the 2000 remake of “Ocean’s Eleven” which starred George Clooney and Brad Pitt.)

Dean Martin’s daughter, Diana Martin, wrote on Twitter: “Our hearts are heartbroken at the loss of our dear friend Henry Silva, one of the kindest, kindest and most talented men I have had the pleasure of calling my friend.” “He was the last surviving star in the original Oceans 11.”

Silva has also been seen in television series such as “Train Car” and “The FBI”, and in films such as Warren Beatty’s “Dick Tracy”, Jerry Lewis’ “Cindervella” and “Ghost Doug: The Samurai Road”, in which he played a gangster In a 1999 edition directed by Jim Jarmusch, one of his fans.
