Diego Luna on Cassian Andor’s return to Star Wars: I was shocked

Diego Luna never expected Cassian Andor to return to ‘Star Wars’ after the heroic sacrifice of a rebellious spy in the 2016 movie ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

“I was shocked,” said Luna. diverse At the premiere of “Andor” in Los Angeles on Thursday. However, the honorary star was elated by the concept, saying that the show was “a beautiful journey, and an inspiring journey.”

“I think Rogue One is a movie about an event, but you don’t know much about these characters,” Luna said. “This tall figure [is] A great way to delve into who they are and why they make the choices they make.”

In his approach to Cassian’s original story, “Andor” creator and presenter Tony Gilroy wanted the character to be far removed from the masterful warrior-spy that was in “Rogue.” [One]. ”

“I really wanted to watch the education and development of the revolutionary,” Gilroy said. “How is someone politicized? How do they learn to understand [how] To make a serious commitment to it? how to change their lives, [and] How much does it cost them? ”

Five years before the events of “Rogue One,” Season 1 explores the formation of the Rebel Alliance, along with Cassian’s evolution from thief to rebel hero. As previously announced, the prequel series will conclude with its second season.

When asked about the limited show for Andor, star Genevieve O’Reilly thought it was the “right call.”

“If we start somewhere completely different where ‘Rogue One’ is, and you only have two seasons to do that, I think it’s really focused on telling stories,” O’Reilly continued. “It could just be a hotbed of creativity.”

There was nothing “bittersweet” about the limited nature of the show, Gilroy said. “It’s really nice to have limitations,” he explained. “It is very useful to know where we are going.”

Andor will premiere its first three Disney Plus episodes on September 21.
