Star Wars: Rogue One fans dealt with bad news before Andor | movies | entertainment

Disney releases latest trailer for Star Wars ‘Andor’

Star Wars fans get ready to watch the new Disney Plus TV show later this week: Andor. The spy thriller Cassian Andor follows five years before the events of 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As fans know, this landmark film led to the events of A New Hope and the destruction of the Death Star.

However, as other Star Wars TV shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett also featured some pretty cool cameos, fans are starting to expect the same from Andor. Unfortunately, the show’s show confirmed that things are very different for this new series.

Star Wars boss Tony Gilroy recently spoke about the characters of the upcoming series, and whether any classic heroes will appear. Unfortunately, the show won’t be filled with legacy characters from the expanded universe, a decision that will surely disappoint longtime Star Wars fans.

Gilroy said, “We didn’t want to do anything about fan service. We never wanted to get anything done… The mandate was initially that it would be completely non-cynical as it could be, and that the show just be real and honest.”

Of course, Star Wars fans love seeing their favorite heroes make big entries on Disney Plus TV shows, so this news will undoubtedly be a huge blow to Disney Plus subscribers.

Who can forget Luke Skywalker’s triumphant arrival to rescue Dean Garen and Grugo from Muff Gideon in The Mandalorian? Or Cad Bane’s live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett?

With that, Gilroy noted that there is one key member of the franchise that will be joining Andor: Saw Gerrera.

Saw was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He acted as the “First Rebel” and began trying to defeat the Empire using destructive and nefarious tactics.

He was later introduced in direct action for the first time in Rogue One, played by Forest Whitaker. Gilroy emphasized that his return in Andorra would be massive.

He said, “We’ll get to know people along the way. I don’t think it’s the secret to having Forest Whitaker on the show… Saw Gerrera is on the show. There’s going to be some other people. But when we get them, we bring them in because we need them and because there’s really some protein in there, there’s something they can.” He really did.” (via IGN)

Andor: Diego Luna to star in Disney + Star Wars

Fans also know that politician Mon Mothma will star in the series, who is a returning character from several films in the series and animated shows. But there is still room for the series to introduce some key characters – including the Jedi – in the future. Andor’s first season contains 12 episodes on Disney Plus. Disney has already confirmed that a second season is on the way in the future.

With 24 episodes to explore Cassian Andor’s journey, the possibilities are endless.

Diego Luna, the actor behind Cassian Andor, recently opened up about the 28-episode expansive adventure. He said, “It feels right because I believe in what we’re doing. But also, because we didn’t get here, just, you know, by chance, like, we’ve been working for five or four and a half years, on this project. There’s a lot of work behind these episodes. The first 12, and we started working on the next 12 episodes a long time ago as you know, there’s a lot of work already done.”

Luna added that the series was dealt with “like a movie” with “rigorous work and this amount of attention.”

He continued, “It’s also a great team of people working on this. We’re collaborating with the best leader we can have, Tony Gilroy, because his writing is so complex and interesting. It’s beautiful material, you know, your hands. And I feel very lucky, of course. And so proud of the freedom to do what I love with all the tools we need.” (via Digital Fix)

While Andor was already green-lit for a second season, Disney quietly canceled the latest Star Wars project.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Star Wars director Patty Jenkins has been cancelled.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was slated to hit theaters in the coming years, but it’s now “off the shelf.”

The Jenkins movie was an original idea that would follow a group of fighter pilots for the Rebel Alliance.

Andor hits Disney Plus on Wednesday.

The rest of the Star Wars movies and TV shows are available to stream on Disney Plus now.
