What configurations does the HP EliteBook 840 G9 come with?

Buying a business laptop doesn’t just mean sticking with what you see on the product page. Business laptops have highly customizable components such as display, storage, CPU, and even cellular connectivity. However, one of the best business laptops to choose from is the HP EliteBook 840 G9. So, are you wondering which configurations the HP EliteBook 840 G9 comes in? We’re here to help, as there are virtually unlimited amounts of configurations for you to choose.

In this guide, we take the base model HP EliteBook 840 G9, add various components to it, and show off the various configuration options. You’ll look at RAM upgrades, CPU upgrades, operating system options, and all other options. Again, note that we’re coming from a base model in this guide, and we’re not taking into account sales prices on HP.com.

Each configuration is naturally different, but the basic (and cheapest) Windows model will come as follows. We configured it with Windows 11 Home, an Intel Core i5-1240P processor, a standard non-IR webcam, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a non-backlit keyboard, no NFC, and no LTE, nor a fingerprint reader or smart card. In total, this is one of the cheapest configurations, coming in at $1,943.00. From now on, adding more will increase this price as we note in our guide.

The operating system

The operating system is the first thing that can be configured on the HP EliteBook 840 G9. There are four options. Windows 11 Pro, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Home and FreeDOS. Note that choosing FreeDOS or Windows 11 Home will close some CPU options. HP suggests choosing Windows 11 Pro for business.

The operating system price
Windows 11 Home (base model not available)
Windows 11 Pro + $86
Windows 10 Pro + $88
Freedos – $129

CPU

In total, there are 8 different CPU options available on the HP EliteBook 840 G9. All CPUs come from the 12th generation Intel range, and the differences are limited to the VPro or OS Recovery options. Note that if you choose Windows 11 Home, you will only have three options available. This is an Intel Core i5-1240P processor, an Intel Core i5-1250P vPro processor, or an Intel Core i5-1250P vPro processor with operating system recovery.

Choosing Windows 11 Pro is required for VPro features, as this is one of Intel’s specs, but in Windows 10 Home, some of the CPUs you’d find with Windows 11 Pro are also available at the same price. VPro models can help manage IT and pass Intel security and battery life tests. Other than that, this P-series chipset runs at 28W and doesn’t have much of a difference in performance.

Intel Core i5-1240P Processor (base model not available)

camera

With a webcam, you have the option to choose no webcam, a standard 5MP webcam only, or a Windows Hello webcam that has an IR sensor. No webcam will remove $13 from your price, and adding an infrared webcam will add $13 to the price. A webcam is included at no extra charge (obviously!) It might be a good idea to invest in an IR Webcam, though, since you can log into your computer using only your face.

Dual array microphone + IR webcam + 5 MP camera + $13
No webcam – $13

Show

When it comes to display options, the situation is complicated with the HP Elitebook 840 G9. Some viewing options actually require you to choose a webcam with an infrared camera or touch screen, so your final price will go up a bit. There are four options available without an IR webcam, and once you add a webcam, you will add a total of 8 available options. Check it out below but keep in mind these are base model prices with Windows 11 Home, as we described to get you started. You can add the values in our tables to calculate your final price.
