Anyone with iOS 16, whether you have a new iPhone 14 or an older model, will likely encounter the new software’s frustrating insistence on asking for permission every time you copy and paste something.
The good news is that Apple is aware of this, and it’s not an intended post. Although there is no sign of a fix yet.
If you haven’t yet upgraded to iOS 16 (or can’t), then popups will appear when you copy and paste things on your iPhone, to make sure you know what app data is currently stored in your clipboard. However, many users reported excessive prompts, with the notification popping up every time they copy and paste from one app to another.
This is not how it is supposed to work. This was confirmed in an email from Ron Huang, Apple’s vice president of Sensing & Connectivity and one of the inventors of the “Authenticated Interface Element Interactions” patent on which the feature is based. Message shared with Mac rumors By a reader who tried to get a response from Tim Cook from Apple or Craig Federighi, but got a response from Huang instead.
In the email, Huang wrote that “this is not expected behavior at all and we will get to the bottom of the matter.” Oddly enough, he says Apple hasn’t come across this feature internally, although Huang adds that there are others outside of Apple who have tried it.
A large number of iPhone 14 issues have been reported since the new iPhones went on sale last Friday. This includes issues with activation, messages, FaceTime, freezing while transferring data, and camera shake on the iPhone 14 Pro.
None of these issues appear to be hardware based, so hopefully Apple will release software patches soon to address the bugs. However, due to iOS 16 bug, copy and paste permission issue may require its own patch which will fix things for iPhone 13 and older iPhones.
In the meantime, you’ll have to deal with these things as best you can, including all those annoying copy/paste popups. But, as Huang said when concluding his email, we should apparently “keep in touch”, which means there should be an answer soon.
