‘Airplane!’ ‘Naked Gun’ Filmmakers David Zucker, Pat Profft Produce Nordic Noir Spoof Series ‘NoPoFo’

David Zucker and Pat Proft, the veteran American filmmakers behind cult comedy franchises including “The Naked Gun” and “Airplane!” The anthology series is produced by lkkas’ Creative Studio, a recently launched Finnish company. BBC Studios Nordex has joined as co-producer.

Described as “Nordic Noir Meets” Police Squad!, The 10-part series follows three elite agents of the Scandinavian Police Force (NoPoFo) tasked with solving the kind of murders that psychopaths do in the North for good. Each half-hour episode takes place in a different Scandinavian country and features a different cast of supporting characters, including a serial killer who only kills bad heavy rock bands, and an Instagram maniac who makes ice sculptures from his victims.

The show was created and written by comedians and screenwriters Mika Ertuvara and Riku Sokas, along with screenwriter Heikki Syrjä (“Lakeside Murders”).

The creative team behind the show also includes Ilkka Hynninen and Ilkka Rahkonen, and executive producer, Randi Siegel, who represents Zucker and brokered the Zucker-Proft deal with APA and Cohen Gardner LLP.

Zucker is best known for the classic comedy “Airplane!” the horrific parodies of the “scary movie” franchise; While Proft is the creator of the “Police Academy” films and has worked with Zucker on several titles of “Naked Gun” and “Scary Movie”. Together, their films have grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Their latest upcoming movie, “The Star of Malta”, is a period comedy produced by RainMaker Films.

“I’ve been honored to work with these two comedic heroes to create a new take on Nordic Noir over the past year,” Hynninen said. “Nordic Noir is a gift for parody, with its imaginative crimes and melancholy high score. The only mystery to me is why it took so long for us to realize its comedic potential…”
