New Xbox update renews game libraries and more

Xbox announced that its September update is rolling out today with several different features such as a full library revamp, changes to storage options, and more. People who are part of the Xbox Insider Program have had a preview of some of this previously, but now it will be available to everyone who participates in the broader Xbox ecosystem.

More specifically, the update includes the ability to customize the colors for the Xbox button on Xbox Elite Series 2 consoles, the entire library revamp, and the ability to change the default storage locations where games and apps are installed on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S consoles, and Xbox One. The Xbox Game Bar now also allows for a sharable link to screenshots on PC, and group chat noise cancellation has been added. In short, it is a collection of quality of life updates rolled out in a single release.

While all of these changes are certainly welcome, it’s the entire library revamp on Xbox consoles that is likely to affect the most people. As we noted when it was the first part of the Xbox Insider Program, better organization in the Xbox game library is very helpful as between Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and the like, and distinguishing what is and where has been somewhat of a pain.

“My entire game and app library offering has been completely redesigned to simplify access to all the games you can access to install and play,”oday ad from Xbox Partially read. “All Games now shows all the games you own as well as any games you can access with your existing Xbox subscriptions, including Xbox Game Pass, EA Access, and games claimed with Gold. You can also easily access the catalogs of your subscriptions, editorial content and all of your apps.” .

As noted above, the Xbox September update rolls out today, September 21, and includes a complete library revamp among other features. Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X consoles are available wherever these are sold for $299 and $499, respectively. You can check out all of our previous Xbox coverage in general here.
