Chepasesh Sarkar, President of Producers Guild of India

Shibasish Sarkar was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Producers Guild of India (PGI) at the first meeting of the newly formed Guild Board of Directors.

Sarkar is currently the President and CEO of International Media Acquisition Corp (IMAC), a special purpose acquisition company targeting the Indian media industry. His most recent stint was as CEO of Reliance Entertainment, part of the Reliance ADA group. He previously held senior positions at Viacom18 and UTV Disney.

Sarkar replaces prolific producer and ex-chairman of Disney India Siddharth Roy Kapoor, who has been in the position for six years and has weathered several storms during his tenure, including supplying industry workers during COVID-19, leading the industry against the vilification of Bollywood. by some Indians. Television channels and their presentation to the Ministry of Information and Indian Broadcasting make a strong case for gentle regulation with emphasis on self-regulation by industry rather than a system of external oversight.

Roy Kapoor said, “It has been a great pleasure and honor to serve the production brothers and I am pleased to pass the baton into the able hands of Shibashi. I’m sure he will do an excellent job and add more luster to the guild’s reputation for leading the interests of the industry.”

Sarkar added, “During his six years as Guild President, Siddharth has been a tireless, passionate and committed champion for our industry at a time of unprecedented challenges. I look forward to building on what he has accomplished and working alongside my colleagues to help meet the challenges and build on the opportunities before us as an industry.”

The PGI leadership team for 2022-2023 also includes Vice Presidents Manish Goswami, Apurva Mehta, Sangwi Wadhwa, Madhu Bojwani and Ambika Khurana, Treasurers Achim Samanta and Fadila Alana.
