At Black Star Square, Accra, Ghana, the lineup includes Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyaki, HER, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Tems and more.

Since it began lighting the Great Park in Central Park in 2012, the Global Citizen Festival has become the world’s longest running global campaign calling for an end to extreme poverty uniting millions of voices, amplified by the world’s greatest artists, and demanding action by world leaders.

Globally, the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed nearly 100 million people into extreme poverty and reversed recent trends in reducing inequality, resulting in at least three years of progress lost.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has exacerbated the situation further, with as many as 323 million people now facing acute hunger, and 1.2 billion people now living in countries experiencing a perfect storm of food, energy and financial crises.

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will invite world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and before the G20 and COP 27 in November to step up and invest $600 million in the future of women and girls, fill the $10 billion annual shortfall in climate finance, and make a breakthrough. $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis, and provide urgent relief from crushing debt to end extreme poverty.

“Decades of systemic and political failures have driven humanity into the midst of converging and rapidly deteriorating crises – climate, hunger, health, war and conflict,” said Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen. “The most marginalized populations are paying the price for the stagnant inertia of our leaders, now millions of lives are at stake, and the future of our planet is at stake. We refuse to just stand by and watch. We refuse to accept starvation when solutions are within reach. We demand a secure future for girls everywhere. We demand governments “To deliver on its promises on climate finance. We demand debt forgiveness that is unfairly crushing economies. We demand action now, while there is still time for our group to change course.”

Festival tickets are free and available by downloading the Global Citizen app or visiting GlobalCitizen.org To take action on campaign issues.

It will air and broadcast from Accra and New York City on ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, and other media.

ABC News Live will air on Saturday, September 24, and the Global Citizen Festival Special: Take Action NOW will air prime-time on Sunday, September 25, at 7 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. CST.
