Riverdale’s Ryan Grantham gets life in prison after pleading guilty to mother’s murder

Actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life in prison, after pleading guilty to the murder of his mother in March 2020. according to CBC News, Grantham pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge, which relates to the shooting of his mother, Barbara White, with a single shot to the head while playing the piano. The ruling, issued by the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver, includes a warning that Grantham will not be eligible for parole for the first fourteen years of his sentence. Grantham is most recently famous for portraying Jeffrey, a young man who accidentally kills Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) in a hit and run, on The CW’s Riverdale. His other films include appearing in supernatural, iZombie, And the sky falling.

Earlier this summer, as the verdict in the Grantham case began, more details were revealed about his alleged plans to kill White, as well as his possible plans to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to a report from Canada Complex At the time, Grantham was plotting to kill Trudeau, which was revealed in a police statement and excerpts from his private diary. After White was killed, Grantham allegedly filled his car with three rifles, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies, and a map with directions to Trudeau’s residence in Rideau Cottage. Grantham did not eventually make it to Trudeau’s residence, and instead turned himself in to Vancouver Police Headquarters.

After initially being charged with first-degree murder, Grantham eventually admitted to second-degree murder earlier this year. While second-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence in British Columbia, the ruling is to determine when he can become eligible for parole, with a period ranging from ten to 25 years. This evidence was reportedly provided in an attempt to express Grantham’s mental state at the time of the murder. The evidence also included videos Grantham had taken throughout the ordeal, including a clip in which he confessed to the murder. Apparently the evidence also included evidence that Grantham was contemplating mass murder, including one at his Simon Fraser University college.

The proceedings also included a victim impact statement from Grantham’s sister, Lisa Grantham, who testified that her brother was undoubtedly a dangerous person.

“It broke my heart,” Grantham told the court. “She struggled so hard… to be killed by her own son.” “She was weak and Ryan didn’t give her any chance to defend herself. It pains me to know he poses a threat to her life.”
