In her sophomore directorial effort – she debuted in 2019 Box Mart Actress turned filmmaker explores a mysterious fantasy community in the middle of the desert through the eyes of Alice Chambers, housewife Florence Pugh in the 1950s.
The film, which has a shockingly twisted ending, offers some explanation for what happens in the first two thirds of the story, but also leaves you asking more questions the more you think about it. So, what happens during do not worry my love ending? Let’s break that down now before diving into some of those burning questions…
What happens at the end don’t worry baby
through a lot of do not worry my loveIn runtime, it’s clear that something is happening in Victory, California withheld from Alice Chambers (Florence Beau), her friends Bunny (Olivia Wilde), Peg (Kate Berlant), and Violet (Sydney Chandler), but the whole truth isn’t revealed until the final chapter. . After experiencing a mental breakdown following a series of strange events – a plane crash is discovered but no wreckage is found, she stumbles across a mysterious structure in the desert, and her ex-best friend Margaret (Kiki Laine) commits suicide – Alice is forced to undergo shock therapy.
This action is intended to reset her memories, but has the opposite effect as it helps Alice realize that Project Victory is not a secret energy project dealing with “progressive materials”, but rather a computer simulation where men can essentially hunt down their wives in virtual recreation in 1950s America.
Returning to her husband Jack (Harry Styles), Alice attempts to escape captivity and return to the mysterious structure shown in the various movie trailers on the Youtube. But this is not before Jack attempts to subdue her, which results in Alice smashing his head with a whiskey glass, killing him. With sirens blaring in the background and a small army of Victory Project guards in red suits descending on them, Alice runs away and runs away from the simulator. The film ends with Alice’s memories of the simulation being wiped away while a scene of her dancing is shown in the real (modern) world before the credits roll.
The Victory Project was just a simulation
There were so many reasons to be excited about it do not worry my love Prior to the movie’s release, one of them was the mystery surrounding the story and the possibility of some kind of twist. And Olivia Wilde is not disappointed in revealing that Project Victory is a virtual prison where men take charge and women fall into the roles of housewives in the 1950s.
It is not like do not worry my love The ending ends in left field, where Wilde and screenwriter Katie Silberman leave little hints and breadcrumbs for the big reveal along the way. First, there’s a scene where Alice opens a carton of eggs for breakfast only until the shells are empty (a glitch in the system). Then, there’s the explosive dinner scene where Alice points out to her friends that they’re all from Chicago, Baltimore, or Philadelphia, and they’ve all met their husbands in a similar fashion (on a train).
A scene near the end confirms all of this when the audience witnesses flashbacks to Alice and Jack in the real world, a scene where Alice works as a custom surgeon and Jack is lonely out of work and finds a way to spend more time with his wife. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions in the movie…
What was Frank’s reasoning behind the Victory Project?
One of the most threatening characters on do not worry my love The cast is Chris Payne Frank, the elusive founder of The Victory Project. And while his character often evokes the purpose behind the project (both inside and outside the simulation), he never gives a full explanation of his rationale behind the events.
We were led to believe that Frank’s goal was to create a world in which men control essentially every aspect of life and have submissive women at home who dine, drinks, and have passionate sex waiting for them at home. It was referenced in the flashback real-life Jack listens to podcast and tacked on a bit in the episode party scene at The Big Party, but Frank was murdered by his wife Shelley (Jimma Chan) before it was openly revealed.
What is the duration of the simulation project victory?
Another unanswered question at the end do not worry my love It relates to the simulation itself, especially with regard to its duration. How long has Frank kept the Victory Project up and running and how long have some of its residents been there? Months, years, decades? Not explicitly disclosed.
Apparently some time has passed since Alice, Bunny, and the other wives first got into the simulation, considering the story of Margaret experiencing a slow downward spiral preceding the mysterious disappearance of her son. And Bunny seemed to be hinting that she too was there for a long time when she revealed to Alice that she knew she was a simulator, but that her children were still alive.
What happens next for Alice and Shelley?
In the last minutes of do not worry my love Alice and Shelley both kill their husbands in rather brutal ways – Alice hits the glass on Jack’s head, Shelley stabs Frank in the chest and damages the knife – which leads to another question: What happens to them next?
Alice is supposed to wake up next to her husband’s corpse after he escapes the simulation (if she dies in The Victory Project she dies in real life), which will undoubtedly lead to some complications as she adapts to the real world. Putting away the entire “dead man in my bed” state, what kind of state would Alice be in mentally and emotionally after such a severe trauma?
The same goes for Chile. Will it end the Victory Project simulation now that Frank is no longer around to run things, or will it pick up where it left off and continue the simulation? All of these questions are open to interpretation.
What was the plane crash deal?
One mystery that is sure to boggle the minds of those who come out of it do not worry my love It is the plane crash that Alice witnessed while on the shuttle victory in the middle of the film. This eventually leads her to find the mysterious structure atop a mountain in the desert surrounding the city, but the plane, its wreckage, and its meaning are never brought back.
Was this another glitch in the system, part of Alice’s real world breaking into the simulation, or just a red herring thrown to distract the audience (like those everyday explosions) for a moment?
Overall, Olivia Wilde does a great job tying the arc to part of the story during do not worry my love It ends, but with some big questions left unanswered. However, if that’s what it takes to keep audiences talking about one of fall’s most anticipated films, so be it. do not worry my love It is currently showing in theaters across the country along with some other promising films of 2022.
