It’s easy to get excited as we approach fall as we reach our busiest time of the year when it comes to consumer tech, with a variety of companies holding events showcasing their very best to offer. But when it comes to the leaks, it’s never too early to start, and it looks like we’re getting a little bit of information today regarding the unannounced Samsung Galaxy S23. Apparently, the device has passed network certification, and it looks like the phone is being tested and can still count on 25W fast charging.
While 25W charging speed isn’t necessarily a bad thing, many Android smartphone manufacturers have long moved on from charging speeds below 30W. They have chosen higher charging speeds, especially when it comes to their high-end product range. While there is nothing wrong or wrong with this scenario, customers have expected faster charging times, which means their devices spend less time on the charger and more time on their hands. While charging speeds can range depending on the company, some have exceeded the 100W mark, which can effectively charge the phone from zero to a full charge in about 20 minutes. Of course, this is not the norm, and others will take a more modest approach, offering charging speeds from 30W to 80W.
Now, one thing to note, the 25W charging speed in the certification is for the Galaxy S23 only. There is always the possibility that the top-of-the-line model will offer improved charging speeds. Currently, the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra support 45W fast charging. Let’s hope Samsung doesn’t choose to match the charging speed itself and instead push things up a bit next year. Regarding other details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 line, there’s a good chance the new line will arrive with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
In previous years, Samsung has opted to split its inventory, with some units using Samsung’s own Exynos processor while others are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC. Many criticized the process, especially since benchmarks found Qualcomm’s offerings were better than Samsung’s Exynos. This isn’t even a dive into the issues of overheating and choking. Of course, we have quite a bit of time until the Galaxy S23 is revealed, which is expected sometime during the early part of 2023.
