Spoilers in front of the three-part intersection between them Law and orderAnd the Law & Order: SVUAnd the Law and Order: Organized Crime On September 22.
NBC Shows Law and order Franchise is back with The first three-part lacrosse that collected characters from the original, organized crimeAnd of course Special Victims Unit. Although the crossover is a pretty big deal for the franchise, the biggest news of the summer was more than Next departure from Kelly Giddish as such Amanda Rollins. Little has been confirmed about how Rollins will write other than what is expected in the first half of season 24, but after the violent and disturbing premiere, I’m actually less nervous about her future.
The episode became extremely violent and disturbing for Rollins at the third hour of the crossover event, when she appeared to have an easy job: monitoring a sex-trafficking victim while she was in the safe house. All went well when she and another policeman went out to get the girl into town, and several shooters came out of nowhere. Rollins did everything she could to protect young Nicole, and she was shot in the torso due to her problem.
Kelly Gidish crushed her performance as her character realized what was going on and felt all the pain and fear… and the episode took so long to reveal her fate that many fans probably remember that Rollins’ swan song is happening this season.
Benson She was horrified to find out that her friend and co-worker had been shot, but she pulled herself together enough to be there for Karisi, who was barely holding back his panic and tears as he tried to figure out what had happened. (kudos to Peter Scanavino For his performance as well, because I figured out something about myself: When Carizzi cries, I cry!) Then he acclimatized as best he could to get to the hospital…and then the crossover didn’t reveal Rollins’ fate until nearly the end.
Fortunately, she was alive – though not feeling well – surrounded by flowers and balloons and a very anxious assistant prosecutor who seemed very relieved to see her awake. Rollins had a very near death experience, but he survived. So, why does this painful transformation make me feel better about her future?
Well, I can’t imagine that SVU Rollins’ last season would almost start killing her, then actually kill her and/or deal her another big punch not long after! I feel we can rule out death by virtue of having such a massive drama and then surviving. Her death after this would spoil the story, and I don’t think fans of the character would need any more reason to be upset about Gedish’s departure.
In fact, this was such a tragic and shocking turnaround for Rollins that I feel better about her making her own choice leaving her to special victims. I’m not quite sure what that option would be, because ideally it would be one that wouldn’t break Carisi’s heart in the process. There is no news that Peter Scanavino is going anywhere.
While I could see her decide to undo the actual policing for the sake of her daughters, it would be similar to how SVU Wrote cat at the start of season 23. (She decided to leave after she nearly died of a gunshot wound to the field, though Actress is back game.) There are endless possibilities at this point, but I feel comfortable excluding Rollins due to a horrific tragedy. She’s already experienced her tragedy this season, so while I’m sad that time is running out before Rollins is gone, I’m less nervous about it.
