London police have arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of hacking, some speculated to be linked to Grand Theft Auto VI Leaks. Last weekend, more than 90 videos of GTA 6 The screenshots were posted on GTAForums before they spread across the rest of the internet. Although some suspected it was real given Rockstar Games’ sheer secrecy, it became clear fairly quickly that the footage was authentic and this was our first look at the highly anticipated game. The leaker in question claimed that he was responsible for hacking both Rockstar Games and Uber. Rockstar Games released a statement Monday morning confirming that there had been a security breach and that the leaked footage was indeed real. Shortly thereafter, Uber reported that it was working with the FBI and the US Department of Justice to find the hacker.
The City of London Police announced on Twitter on September 23 that they had arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of hacking as part of an investigation by the National Crime Agency’s Cybercrime Unit. The teenager is currently in custody, although no details have been given. Although there were intense rumors and speculation prior to the arrest that the hacker was a teenager working outside the UK, London police have not confirmed any link between the two cases. ComicBook has contacted London Police for more information and has received this brief statement: “We have no more information to share at this point. Any updates will be shared on our Twitter.” We have also reached out to Rockstar Games, but have not received a response in time for publication.

As of now, it remains to be seen what comes out of this. Rockstar Games has already confirmed that it does not expect any long-term disruption to development of the next Grand Theft Auto, so you don’t have to worry about the game being internally delayed for years. We still don’t know when the game will be released, but some hope the game will be appropriately revealed later this year.
