Ron Howard’s daughter divided her childhood between the family’s Connecticut farm, New York state home, and Hollywood. She giggles when she suggested it wasn’t the typical La La Land breeding for Faberge eggs and tea parties. Not only was she warned that she had little chance of making a living as an actress, she was also sheltered and prepared for the predatory dinosaurs of the industry long before the MeToo movement sent seismic shock waves through the world of cinema.
Her Academy Award winning father also nurtures and nurtures her own creative talents from a young age, taking them in as a young boy and then using them to record auditions for his films. Her grandfathers, actors Rance and Jean Howard, also shared their stories – inspiring, real, and shocking – about the industry.
We meet on a sunny medieval terrace overlooking the magnificent port of Valletta in Malta. Lots of blockbuster movies were shot there, including some streaming chase scenes, and we’re here to promote the release of Extended Edition Home Entertainment Packs that include another 14 minutes of footage and a new short film from Jurassic World.
As I wait for my turn at the end of the day, Bryce’s booming laugh echoed throughout the expanse. Despite sitting in toaster heat for eight hours, she is engaged and refreshingly engaging, delightfully unflattering, and at the same time deeply thoughtful and riotously funny. Exactly what you would expect, in fact, from the daughter of “Richie Cunningham”.
Hilariously, she happily admits that she never sat down to watch her dad’s iconic show properly: “I haven’t seen it all,” he giggles, “maybe he thinks he’s rude!
Instead, it was an intense, physical childhood filled with excelling in karate lessons and sports, “shaving off the goat barn” and, of course, long hours in her father’s shadow as she became one of the most respected directors in Hollywood.
“My dad is so weird because he’s always involved me on his directorial journey. We have home movies about me when I was five with the affirmation and I’m, ‘Listen, it’s going to be okay,'” says Bryce. I’ll have something to say about the value, which is great.”
At the age of eleven, she was recording auditions for her films and quickly realized that there might be many great actors suitable for a role, but only one could get it, usually based on some indefinable criteria or chemistry. Her grandparents dug into her that even a regularly acting actor was only successful in all 64 auditions.
She says, “My parents wanted me to know that I probably wouldn’t be able to earn a living and would need a way to support myself. I was a full-time nanny on Broadway, and I still did it while I was filming The Village. I never thought I’d make a living in acting” .
Before concentrating on theater and film, Price also had serious athletic ambitions: “I love action movies, and I love being physical. As a kid and teen, I was studying karate and thought I wanted to go to college for basketball and had to decide between that and the theater. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever made. my life “.
She happily described full-body bruises on social media, touting the hard work that went into a franchise filled with high-octane stunts and chases, including the terrifying Jurassic World Dominion through the streets and rooftops of Malta.
“Being in your own body, it’s so rewarding,” she said beaming. “It’s great to express yourself this way. There are bumps and bruises but you’re safe. I’m not a risk taker in my life but I love being on movie sets doing crazy things. Because it’s fun!”
She also admitted that she survived the horrific dangers that many young actresses faced in Hollywood thanks to her family.
“My grandmother was an actress who started in her sixties,” Price says. “She was taking me to her scene class and I was hearing all these stories[about the past]so yeah, I definitely was warned. I knew the guy he’d never met. That was so lucky and a privilege. Not every actor has access to information, and from Stay away from it, and who is safe. I changed forever in 2017 and felt that different.”
Jurassic World Dominion is rightly proud to present two adorable, dynamic ladies in Bryce and Dewanda Wise, who play feisty Kayla Bellow. Their on-screen agency and presence will inspire a new generation of young girls and boys, while Bryce is reassured that things will finally get better behind the scenes in the industry for the young actors. Including, her children – Theodore, Beatrice, 15 and 10 – with her husband, actor Seth Gable.
“My daughter is very interested in being an actress and I create every obstacle,” she says. “But I also know it’s safer now. It’s a safer place.”
The onscreen dinosaurs finally find their sanctuary, but the Hollywood dinosaurs are finally facing extinction.
