House of the Dragon: Who is the mighty Harwin?

Ser Harwin Strong, known to the people of Westeros as Breakbones, spent the first few episodes of Dragon House as a background character. His father, Lionel, and brother, Larize, have played much larger roles on the show up to this point. However, in the sixth episode of Dragon HouseHarwin steps into the spotlight and plays an important role in the show’s ongoing story. Played by Ryan Corr, Harwin Strong played a much bigger role on Sunday night’s episode of Dragon House. After a time jump, the most powerful man in Westeros became a captain of the City Watch, working closely with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her children. As we learned in the episode, Rhaenyra’s kids likely belong to Harwin. It’s never been 100% confirmed, but even Lenore, Raynera’s husband, admits the boys may have been Harwin’s sons. This, of course, causes problems throughout King’s Landing.

The young boys will never officially belong to Harwin, as acknowledging their relationship will cause Rhaenyra to lose everything. He simply explains that Rhaenyra’s sons look more like her than Laenor due to random chance, even though none of them have Targaryen blonde hair.

Is Harwin Strong dead?

At the end of Sunday’s episode of Dragon House, Harwin returns to Harrenhal, the castle owned by House Strong. Larrys, Harwin’s brother, hires several criminals to set the castle on fire, trapping both Harwin and their father inside.

Harwin Strong, unfortunately, is definitely dead. It was largely implied, although it was never officially shown on screen. In Fire & Blood, Harwin is killed in the fire, which removes him from the situation with Rhaenyra and leaves Larrys as Harrenhal’s sole heir. This is not something the House of the Dragon will change.
