Man held baby while resisting officers after SWAT standoff at apartment on Locke Lane in west Houston, police say!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A man resisted officers while carrying a baby after a standoff between Special Forces in western Houston ended early Monday morning, according to police.

Officers said the man, who was armed with a rifle, held his 20-year-old girlfriend against her will in an apartment at 7954 Lock Lane, near Voss and Westheimer.

Houston police received a phone call from members of the friend’s family around 1:30 a.m. They told the officers that the woman said she was very scared and asked the family to take her with her.

The man reportedly indicated on the phone that he would not let the woman go while threats were being made.

When family members came to the apartment, they reportedly lost contact with the woman, who had sought help from the police.

Officials said that when police arrived at the scene, officers were unable to contact the woman, but saw movement inside the apartment.

After 4 a.m., and after several hours of confrontation, police said the woman walked out of the apartment.

Soon, the friend came out holding the baby, the officers said, although he was not in compliance.

“Officers on the SWAT team were trying to comply, to get him to hand the baby over and put him in custody. But he was resisting. He was holding the baby, not hurting the baby, but he also didn’t comply,” the commander. Megan Howard said. “The decision was made to put him in custody, take the child out of his hands. He continued to resist. Some force was used, and they were able to take the child out of his hands and put him in custody without further incident.”

Police said the woman and child were safe with no apparent injuries.

The man has been charged with kidnapping, but other charges may be pending, according to the Department of Health and Prevention.

During a search of the apartment, police said they found several firearms and drug paraphernalia.
