Next James Bond: Tom Hardy lags as Netflix hero secures top spot | movies | entertainment

Since No Time To Die hit theaters last year, the future of James Bond has been left in sight. Daniel Craig has walked away from the 007 role after 15 years and five movies, and now it’s time for a new star in the tuxedo and shake-and-not-move martini. A fan favorite, Tom Hardy was at the forefront of Bond prospects, but things are starting to fade away from the Mad Max actor.

Just last week Hardy made a solid 4/1 when he became James Bond of Ladbrokes.

The Venom representative had previously spoken about how he “wouldn’t” discuss becoming Bond, because he was afraid he would lose his shot if he talked about it more candidly.

While he has certainly remained calm since he made these comments, his odds have waned in recent days. Ladbrokes has now given Dunkirk’s representative 5/1 as the new 007.

This change propels Hardy into fourth place in Bond odds, behind Idris Elba.

Elba kept 4/1 strong when he became 007. But his odds could change dramatically after he was mentioned by Bond bosses, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, in a statement to Variety.

“We love Idris,” Broccoli confirmed, before explaining why he might not be 007’s best bet. “The thing is, there will be a few years,” she continued. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-year commitment. So maybe he’s thinking: “Do I really want this thing?” Not everyone wants to do it.”

Despite that, for now, he’s a solid candidate for third place for Bond, despite the fact that he’s being beaten, marginally, by another huge British superstar: Reggie Jean Page.

While Hardy dips into Bond’s odds, Cavill shows no signs of stopping. His odds have now improved to 7/4.

“Henry Cavill went further on his last Bond bet after a lot of interest in the gambler over the weekend,” said Alex Abate of Ladbrokes.

The actor would be perfect for the role, considering his history of playing powerful heroes, such as Superman, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, and super-spy Napoleon Solo in The Man from UNCLE.

Moreover, if Cavill gets the role, it will be the second time he has tried to become Britain’s most famous spy.

Cavill had previously auditioned to become James Bond again in 2005. He did so well, reaching the final audition stage with the studio at the time, which was producing the 2006 movie Casino Royale.

Unfortunately for the star, disaster befell. Casino Royale manager Martin Campbell said Cavill was looking a bit “full”.

The actor later admitted that he did not know how to “train or feed”, and inevitably lost the role. Just months later, Craig was announced as the new James Bond.

James Bond No Time To Die is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video now.
