Patti Labelle Joins The Wonder Years in a Guest Role

Actress and singer Patti Labelle is set to guest star on ABC’s “The Wonder Years” for its upcoming two-episode season. The new season is set to premiere mid-season, but a premiere date has yet to be announced.

LaBelle will play Bill Williams (Dolly Hill)’s mother, Shirley Williams, who works as the director of the local church choir. On the show, she also goes for “Mother Williams,” describing her as “as sweet as can be, but there’s another side to her that comes up when her choir members can’t hit the right tunes.”

The longtime singer and actress has appeared in films and TV shows such as “Soldier’s Tale”, “A Different World”, “American Horror Story” and more. She has also given notable performances in competition shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Masked Singer”. LaBelle launched a record label in 2017 called GPE Records, and released her debut jazz album, “Bel Hommage,” under her own banner.

LaBelle is represented by WME and operated by Edwards Entertainment.

“The Wonder Years”, inspired by the original 1988 comedy and drama series, debuted in 2021 and was created by Saladin K. Patterson. Elisha “EJ” Williams plays Dean Williams, a child growing up in Montgomery, Alabama in the late 1960s. Actor Don Cheadle serves as the show’s narrator, lending his voice as an adult version of Dean. The show was renewed for a second season in May 2022. Patterson, Lee Daniels, and Bob Dailey served as executive producers, while the series was produced by 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.
