5. James Conner, RB, Arizona Cardinals (v. Carolina Panthers)
James Conner wasn’t necessarily the fictional producer that directors penned him to be in 2022. After dominating in 2021, he got off to a slow start—just like the rest of Arizona’s crime scene. It had a total length of 90 yards in 30 buggies, and didn’t add much through the air.
However, this is a good week for Conner and the rest of the Cardinals’ rebound attack. Conner will face the Carolina Panthers, who have allowed their 16th-most fantasy points lead to emerge in 2022, and they haven’t looked so good themselves. This will likely be a competitive game, and the Cardinals will need offensive production to win.
Conner has the talent and scale to be a legitimate fiction producer. He will have to improve on what he did in three weeks and make better use of the solid volume he is getting. Until then, it’s a low-key RB2. However, this match increases his expectations this week.
