“We as humans are too afraid to face the death of a life or even to utter the word cancer,” she added. “But we have a lot more power inside of us than we think.”

Barrett went on to explain that she continued filming Chicago Med While she was undergoing treatment and that she had a lot of support from the cast and crew – including those who shaved their heads to support her – while also making adjustments to keep going during the treatment.

“I start an hour earlier to get my directions before I start my day,” she said, before adding that “work brings me so much joy right now. It brings me so much relief to think of something other than ‘When is the next chemo shift?’” and “How am I going to hug my kids?”
