Quinn “sets itself” for the 2012 James Bond sketch writer says
James Bond fans around the world have been clamoring to see what is on display during a charity auction that will sell some of the British secret agent’s most famous memorabilia and props. The likes of the exciting Aston Martin DB5, the suits and costumes worn by the latest James Bond movie, Daniel Craig, in the latest movie to be released, No Time to Die, as well as a host of other cool stuff from the world’s biggest spy franchise will be on offer to buyers. Starting today, the two-part sale will see bids open for released items and accepted, until James Bond Day, the annual day set for October 5, which was also 007’s first outing at Dr No in cinemas where about 60 items have been released. Since Dr No aired, 24 more official James Bond films – all by Eon Productions – as well as spin-offs, comics, and other books have been released.
But Bond’s roots are still firmly rooted in the books in which he first appeared, written by Ian Fleming, the author who in 2008 was ranked 14th on a list of the “50 Greatest British Writers Since 1945”.
Fleming’s greatest literary figure emerged during his tenure in the British Naval Intelligence Division during World War II, a role that saw him participate in the planning of Operation Goldeneye, and in the 30 Assault Unit and T-Force intelligence.
When he began writing about a British secret agent, making use of his time working during the war, as well as his career in journalism, Fleming quickly sketched what his main character might look like, and how he might act.

After choosing what would become one of the most lucrative spies in cinema and literature, Fleming admitted his amazement at the gentle method he chose for the world’s most attractive and deadly secret agent.
Speaking to The New Yorker in 1962, a decade after Bond made his Casino Royale debut, Fleming discussed how he coined the characteristics of a spy and what he was after when he appeared on the page.
He said, “When I wrote the first one in 1953, I wanted Bond to be a very boring, uncaring man to whom things happened; [James Bond] It’s the slowest name I’ve ever heard.”
Fleming, who also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, reiterated that sentiment in another interview, this time in 1958 with The Guardian, adding, “I wanted to find the simplest, simplest, simplest name I could find, ‘James Bond’ was so much better than something.” More interesting, like “Peregrine Carruthers”.

James Bond himself is said to have come from the name of an American ornithologist also called James Bond, who was an expert on Caribbean birds, and author of the definitive field guide Birds of the West Indies.
It was noted that Fleming, who also liked birdwatching, had a copy of the book and decided to use the author’s name. He later told Bond’s real-life wife, “It struck me that such an abbreviated, unromantic, Anglo-Saxon, yet very masculine name is what I needed, and so a second James Bond was born.”
In the years since Bond debuted, the character has been dumped by critics, all looking to examine his roots and who he may have based. William Cook wrote his own theory in a 2004 article in the New Statesman.

He said, “James Bond is the culmination of an important but abused tradition in English literature. As a boy, Fleming devoured the tales of Bulldog Drummond by Lieutenant Colonel Hermann Cyril McNeill (also known as ‘The Saber’) and Richard Hannay’s stories by John Buchan.”
“His genius was to repackage these ancient adventures to fit the fashion of post-war Britain…in Bond, Bulldog Drummond created for the age of aircraft.”
Recently, the auction is expected to raise millions for charity, notably the iconic Aston Martin DB5 that was used in the No Time to Die movie. Experts expect the car to sell for between 1.5 million pounds ($1.62 million) and 2 million pounds ($2.16 million).
“Outwardly it looks just like the DB5 we all associate with James Bond, internally (it is) a completely different beast capable of doing all the amazing stunts and driving that they did at Matera,” said Adrian Hume Sayer, Director of Special and Iconic Collections at Christie’s and Head of James Bond Sales. .
Proceeds from the James Bond 60’s auctions will go to charity, with 60 items expected to be snapped up. This is just one of the many events being hosted in 2022 to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of Britain’s Best Spy.
Producer Michael J. Wilson added when asked about who might take over from Craig: “Well right now we’re not thinking about the next chapter yet, we’re just celebrating the release of No Time To Die and our 60th anniversary. And I think when that ends by the end of this year Next year, we’ll start thinking about where to go from here.”
