Pornhub criticizes permanent Instagram ban, cites Kim Kardashian Nude Post

Pornhub, the beleaguered adult content site, has criticized Instagram’s decision to permanently ban its account on the social network, citing Instagram’s practice of allowing celebrities like Kim Kardashian to post nude photos as an example of double standards.

In a letter to senior executives at Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Pornhub — along with the adult trade group Free Speech Coalition, the Guild of Adult Artists and more than 60 adult artists — asked Instagram to “end all discrimination towards those involved in the adult industry” and “immediately reinstate all accounts, including Pornhub, that have not violated any of Instagram’s Terms of Services.”

“We demand an explanation and guidance on why our accounts are constantly being deleted, and why content we spend money on creating is removed in order to engage with our audience, even when we don’t violate any of the Instagram rules,” the letter read. (Read it below).

The letter specifically cites a September 6 on Instagram By Kardashian, one of the service’s most followed celebrities, which featured a photo of her on the cover of the September 2022 issue of Interview magazine in which her bare back is prominently featured.

“Kim Kardashian posted her fully bare butt to her 330 million followers without any restrictive Instagram action,” Pornhub and the others said in the message. “We’re glad to see that Kim and the art team behind the photo are free to share their work on the platform, but wonder why we’re denied the same treatment.”

The message he got diverse, to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, Meta Head of Global Affairs Nick Clegg, and Meta Legal Director Jennifer Newsted. The message was previously news mentioned by New York Post.

But while Pornhub claims it did not violate Instagram’s policies, a Meta spokesperson said Pornhub has repeatedly violated Instagram’s community guidelines – including the ban on sexual solicitation – over a period of more than 10 years. The abuse has accumulated to the point that Pornhub’s Instagram account has been permanently closed, according to Meta.

“We have permanently disabled this Instagram account for repeatedly violating our policies,” a Meta spokesperson said.

according to Instagram Community GuidelinesWe know there are times when people may want to share nude photos of an artistic or creative nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. In addition, Instagram adheres to the company-wide Meta Community Standards, which regarding sexual solicitation prohibit “attempting to coordinate or recruit for adult sexual activities”. Pornhub’s Instagram posts included videos like “next career goal” to encourage people to become porn artists.

Before Instagram disabled Pornhub’s account in early September, it had 13.1 million followers and over 6,200 posts.

It came about a month after Visa and Mastercard cut the payment privileges of TrafficJunky, the advertising arm of Pornhub MindGeek’s parent company. This followed a federal court ruling in July that denied Visa’s request to be removed from a case in which MindGeek was sued for allegedly distributing child pornography and which alleges that Visa intentionally facilitated MindGeek’s ability to monetize illegal content. MindGeek says that it “has zero tolerance for the posting of illegal content on its platforms, and has put the most comprehensive safeguards in the user-generated platform log…Any suggestion that MindGeek doesn’t take the removal of illegal material seriously is categorically wrong.”
