“He committed this horrific crime,” says writer and executive producer Gilroy, returning to star Wars universe after Rogue One. “It makes the situation infinitely worse. He’ll be a fugitive, he’s a fugitive.”

It takes place in the year BBY 5 – half a decade before the victory of the rebels during the Battle of Yavin in New hope The Disney+ series goes back further in time to reveal the origins of Cassian as Kassa (Antonio Viña) in his home world of Kinari.

“We also had a really compelling origin story for him as a child that really meant something about permanent displacement,” Gilroy notes. “And to start his anger early on, this will be something he will have to work on and learn how to manage.”

In a flashback before the Clone Wars begin, young Cassian is rescued by Maarva Andor (Fiona Shaw), who rescues an orphaned boy from a grim fate on a deserted planet after an imperial mining disaster. “We understand his orphan character,” Luna says. “It took him many years in his life to find this sense of, ‘There is something for me to fight for.'” Even if it is an idea and not a place.

From the sacked Kenari to Fennix, a scavenger planet from the scavengers, Andor It takes place across the galaxy and at a “very difficult moment in history”.

“The empire is getting stronger,” Gilroy explains. “The corporate planets are being nationalised.” “At the same time, rebellion is popping up everywhere, in all kinds of iterations.”

A key figure in this anti-imperial revolution is Rael’s “secret friend”, mechanic Ferrix Pecs Callen (Adria Arjuna) who will soon reveal his connections to Republican Senator Moon Muthma (Genevieve O’Reilly).

“Lothen Rael’s character is the glue,” Gilroy says. “He’s been building very quietly and methodically a network in a very secretive way.” Luna adds, “He will be behind everything.”

Luna concludes, “I don’t think Cassian understands what’s going to happen, [or] with whom he deals. How important are these things to break out.”
