Tom Hanks admits: ‘I’ve only made four films’ | movies | entertainment

Tom Hanks is one of the best-loved and most prolific actors of our generation. From Toy Story to Forrest Gump, the star has acted in nearly 100 movies, but he’s now revealed that he wasn’t always happy with them.

Most recently, Hanks starred in the Elvis Presley biopic, “Elvis,” as Colonel Tom Parker, head of the King of Rock and Roll – but did he like it?

Hanks barred the whole thing in a new interview while discussing writing his first novel, creating another major masterpiece.

The book, due for release on May 9, 2023, draws from experiences that Hanks experienced over the decades of his Hollywood career.

While chatting, he openly talked about his own movies. He said, “No one knows how to make a movie – although everyone thinks they do.”

Hanks looked at his own films, of which there are more than 80, and noted how “miraculous” the film sets were, while also talking about their quality.

He said, “I’ve made a lot of movies (and I think four of them are pretty good), and I’m still amazed at how the movies come together. From the flicker of an idea to the dim picture on the screen, the whole process is a miracle.”

He later added, “Making films is a very hard work over a very long period of time consisting of many moments of joy slapped against an equal number of feelings of self-loathing. It is the greatest job in the world and the most confusing business I know.”

While Hanks hasn’t named any of his movies that he considers “very good,” it’s clear he might not be too proud of it.

In 1999, he starred in Saving Private Ryan, where his performance went down in history as one of his strongest to date.

While many of his characters have been quite heroic over the years, it has now been revealed that he wanted to try something different for Elvis.

Hanks’ version of Colonel Tom Parker was the villain in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic. The director explained that this was an intentional choice for the Captain Phillips star.

“I sat down with him I haven’t written a text yet and he said, ‘Well, if you want me I’m your man,’” Luhrmann said. “

Luhrmann said Hanks wanted to play a character that “the fan base doesn’t want him to do.”

“Like all tyrants, Tom Parker was sympathetic,” said the director of The Great Gatsby. “He loved Elvis and he was also taking the hell out of him so Tom Hanks wanted to run toward that role, he jumped at the chance to do something obnoxious.”

Elvis is available for digital download now.
