‘Hocus Pocus 2’ premieres on Disney+ with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy as Sanderson sisters!

New York City — In a new movie sequel, three Salem sisters suspected of being witches are expelled, only to return 370 years later.

Fans of the original “Hocus Pocus” know what that means, and on Friday, the original stars reunite on Disney+.

The Sanderson sisters seek revenge and it is up to a trio of high school students to stop them.

Entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon went to the movie’s premiere to talk to the stars of Part Two. For three of Hollywood’s biggest stars, this was a rare opportunity to revisit the roles they played three decades ago.

And for the guys who played opposite Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, this was an opportunity to share the screen with the legends.

When three witch sisters from a popular Halloween movie get together again for more “Hocus Pocus,” making magic is almost guaranteed.

“The chemistry between the three sisters – a big part of it!” said my star, who plays Mary Sanderson without a broom.

Midler described the reunion as emotional and a bit strange.

“It’s almost as if these fashions have a soul of their own, and once you put them on, you become, and you can’t help yourself,” said Midler, who plays mastermind Winnifred Sanderson. “They move you. They force you to act in certain ways that you would never have acted in real life.”

“I thought it was interesting that after 30 years, these adult women were trying to clearly remember what these intentional, very silly, evil people are,” said Parker, who plays singer Sarah Sanderson.

“Hocus Pocus 2” had been in development for years until two fans of the original movie, Disney directors Jessica Virtu and Rachel Young, put the project on the fast track.

Doug Jones, who plays the undead Billy Bucherson, said the sequel is scary enough, with some mixed comedic relief.

“Fun and laughter and colors and costumes and also a little bit of scary, but just enough to get you going, but it will be okay in the end,” Jones said.

The origin has captured the imagination of generations of children. The younger members of the cast say they all loved watching the original Halloween movie.

“It was one of my favorite movies and it still is,” said Taylor Henderson, who plays young Winifred in Part Two.

Jen D’Angelo wrote the sequel and said the process was a little intimidating.

“Oh my God, it was so scary,” said D’Angelo. “It was the scariest Halloween of my life when I was writing this.”

D’Angelo and all the other people involved, today’s generation of thrill seekers, can see what all the fuss is about.

“Hocus Pocus 2” premieres September 30 on Disney+ owned by parent company ABC.
