Jay and Hailey just got married in Season 9, so this inevitable Upstead split is going to be very difficult. Once again, showrunner Gwen Seguin addressed the couple elephant in the room. When Jay is gone, Hailey will be “leaving in this, I would say, almost a void, this void of how to proceed? What the hell does that look like?”
Apparently, their dismissal will really affect her job, which will likely endanger Hailey and the others.
