“I put my heart and soul into it”

After 12 years, 11 seasons and 177 episodes, the walking Dead It will end with a final series directed by veteran Greg Nicotero. Since 2010, Nicotero has worked as an FX special makeup designer, zombie extra, executive producer, and series director for AMC, performing techniques dating back to his time as assistant makeup artist Tom Savini at George A. day of the dead. On November 20, AMC’s leading zombie drama (comes back on October 2) will premiere its final eight episodes – the last-ever episode of the walking Dead.

“I asked to direct the end, but I think so [showrunner] Angela [Kang] and silence [M. Gimple, executive producer] I already had every intention of making me do it, for many reasons,” Nicotero said Empire Magazine. “I felt the weight of pressure on me, and I’m proud of what we did. Is it a zombie heavy or a light zombie? Well, even if the script says ‘two or three zombies,’ I need more like 200 or 300”

After directing nearly 40 episodes of the walking DeadNicotero is confident that the series finale is “a very cool episode.”

He said, “I put my heart and soul into it. It was tough.” I told Norman [Reedus] One day, man, if I can get past that, I can do anything. I can direct a star Wars Movie, I can take out anything that falls in front of me. I’m pround of it.”

Photography the walking DeadThe final episode wrapped up in March in Georgia, ending 12 months of filming—and 12 years later.

“On the last day of [filming] the walking Dead“I shot a little video of me and Norman on set,” Nicotero recalls. We talked about 12 years together, all the things we did. Like when scripts come out and Andy [Lincoln] Norman would come to my house and we would read them together. We’ve been in the trenches together for over a decade.”

After the show’s final trailer was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July, Nicotero noted that the series’ creators “certainly felt like we had an obligation to make sure it arrived.”

“Everyone on set, the cast and crew, were saying we can’t screw this up because all eyes generally end on the last episode,” Nicotero said at Comic-Con. “You talk about SeinfeldAnd the mash, all of these great shows we love, and for the most part the historical relevance of the show is judged in the last episode. So we really struggled, composed, and stuck together to make sure it served the fans of the show.”

The Walking Dead: The Final Episodes Starts Sunday, October 2nd on AMC and AMC+. The final episode of the series will be shown on November 20.
