Rush started one game into the 2021 season, and led the team to a 20-16 win over the Minnesota Vikings, with 325 yard throws and two touchdowns. One year later, he helped lead the Cowboys to victory in their next two matches.

In Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rush completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 235 yards and one touchdown in a 20-17 win. Then on Monday Night Week 3 football, Rush threw for 215 yards and one touchdown while completing 21 of 31 pass attempts.
