A new round of Google Pixel 7 details, both official and unofficial, has been dropped to reveal more about the new phone’s design, price and possible face unlock feature.
To get started, official design information comes from A teaser video of Google’s final Pixel 7 design (Opens in a new tab). As with previous Google trailers, we can see the new look of the phone from all angles.
Obviously, there are a lot of similarities with the Pixel 7 Pro that we’ve already seen, but there are a few key differences. It has one less camera (there’s no telephoto on the base model), flat screen edges instead of curved ones, and the materials look different, as the metal bezels and camera bar here have a matte finish, rather than a glossy finish.
Also, the choice of color is slightly different as well. Both phones come in Snow and Obsidian, but the Pixel 7 Pro gets the unique option from Hazel, while the standard Pixel 7 gets Lemongrass, shown above with the Obsidian version.
Google Pixel 7 price and face unlock leaks
Meanwhile, outside of Google’s official Pixel teaser, more leaks of the new phones have surfaced.
First, we have another price leak courtesy of Roland Quandt by WinFuture. Like the previous price leak, it comes from Amazon, and the base price of the Pixel 7 appears at 649 euros. That’s certainly not bad news, as it’s the same price as the Pixel 6 currently selling in Europe, indicating the Pixel 7’s price hasn’t gone up despite the economic challenges around the world.
However, it was nice to see a further drop in price, and really benefit from Pixel 6As the best deal in flagship smartphones.
Second, the long-awaited return of face unlock to the Pixel may have been confirmed by an Android expert Mishaal Rahman. While searching the Google Play Console, he found details of the two new phones, such as how the new Tensor G2 chip delivers faster speeds with better components, support for swappable eSIMs and support for secure face unlock.
The only Pixels that previously offered this were the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, although they used additional sensors to verify a user’s face, as Face ID does on recent iPhones. There’s no sign of that on the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, which makes us wonder how safe this system is in comparison.
Everything will undoubtedly be revealed at the October Google event on the 6th (Thursday of next week). The Pixel isn’t the only thing Google will show, though. We’ll also see the much-anticipated Google Pixel watch for sure. Hopefully Google has something more to show us than the Pixel Tablet, and if we’re really lucky, confirm that there is a Pixel Fold.
