Twitter sent the platform’s first edited tweet

It’s as if Twitter users are asking for a way to edit tweets. While there have been a lot of rumors and internal reports, the edit button has yet to appear in its official capacity. It wasn’t until April of this year that we finally got confirmation that the company was working on it, giving users hope that it might arrive soon. Well, it might be time at last, as the Twitter Blue account tweeted the first edited tweet on the platform.

While this is exciting, it doesn’t give us any answers as to when the feature will appear. But it does give us a good idea of how the feature works in a straightforward scenario. We’ve reported in the past about how Twitter implements multiple visual signals to show users when they edit a Tweet. We can see in the tweet the message “last modified”. The message indicates the last time the user modified a tweet with the date and time. By clicking on the message, users can get more details and see how the tweet was edited.

Twitter has already stated that when the feature is rolled out, it will be exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers. Twitter Blue is a premium subscription service that gives users access to additional privileges such as custom app icons, the ability to undo tweets, ad-free articles, bookmark folders, and more. Blue subscribers also get access to the Labs section, which offers beta features that can change from time to time. Recently, Twitter has expanded its audio offerings through Labs, debuting a new Spaces tab featuring podcasts and other audio content.

The company has begun doubling down on videos on its platform, revamping its content and emulating TikTok with an immersive, full-screen viewing experience. Of course, there’s no telling how any of these extensions will work in the long run, but it’s nice to see the platform doing its best to keep things fresh. If you’re interested in Twitter Blue, the service costs $4.99 per month, and is available in Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.
