Will there be a sequel to the new horror movie?

The horror movie is landing in cinemas this weekend smilingand, unlike a number of other horror efforts that debuted throughout the year, it’s not a remake or sequel but is instead a completely original idea. The film, however, was inspired by writer/director Parker Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Sleeppt, allowing him to embody the ideas he first coined with that initial story. In the film, after witnessing the strange and traumatic incident of a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Susie Bacon) begins to experience frightening events that she cannot explain. When overwhelming terror begins to take over her life, Rose must confront her disturbing past in order to survive and escape her terrifying new reality.

One of the biggest factors in determining whether there will be a follow-up movie is how the audience reacts to the experience. With so little competition at the opening weekend box office that will run the same genre, it could be the movie that sees audiences kick off the Halloween season. Depending on how well it’s doing financially, you could see the studio pressing Finn to develop ways to expand the core concept.

Over the course of the film, the audience learns that a supernatural entity possessed victims and was trauma-fed. This causes the entity to overtake the host and violently commit suicide in front of witnesses, then allowing the entity to jump into a witness, eventually causing starvation and causing victims to repeat the act to a new witness.

After being cursed by the entity, Rosie attempts to overcome the threat, but fails to do so, and eventually violently commits suicide in front of Joel (Kyle Galner). This means that the entity will live inside it, and will likely see it continue the cycle. While a follow-up film can certainly explore the after-effects of meeting Joel, there are many other stories that could unfold with a focus on other individuals this entity possesses.
