Kevin Smith plans shows with Russo Brothers, Zack Snyder and George R. R. Martin at his movie theater

Earlier this week, director Kevin Smith reopened his childhood theater in New Jersey under the name Smodcastle Cinemas. Smith announced the deal in August, and he has big plans for the movie house, which includes a merchandise store in the hotel lobby, a “movie school camp” for aspiring young filmmakers, and of course plenty of specials for cult classics, including Smith’s special films, complete with sessions Questions and answers, special events and marathons. It has already been checked third clerks in the former Atlantic Moviehouse, and the first Big View Askew event coming to the newly renamed Smodcastle Cinemas will be a show tusk Next month, which will be preceded by registration Hollywood Babylon Onfollowed by a question and answer.

Last night, on an episode of Fatman BeyondSmith shared a rough outline of some of his upcoming events, including shows and Q&A with George R.R. Martin, Zack Snyder and the Russo brothers. This backs up his Instagram post yesterday, which also dropped the names of people like James Gunn and Jason Reitman.

Smith announced his intention to buy the theater—with his wife Jennifer Schwalback; Investor Jeff Swanton and Leeloo Multiprops, a company that sells movie props, collectibles, and celebrity experiences — during a recent episode of Hollywood Babylon OnHis podcast with Ralph Garman. The theater – which is nearly 100 years old and has been a staple in Smith’s hometown all his life – will be renamed Smodcastle Cinemas, and Smith plans to show films as usual most of the year, but also use the venue as a home for speaking events, live performances, film festivals and other shows of shindigs with Relevancy to Askew.

Smith is currently on the road with third clerks, a promotional-style version that includes a hefty ticket price…but also includes questions and answers with the director, and often with cast members. The film grossed $2.7 million in Fathom Events specials earlier this month, just over a third of the film’s reported budget. Jay and Silent Bob Rebootwhich had a similar release in 2019, reportedly sold so many copies on DVD and Blu-ray that Lionsgate approached Smith and told him that if he could make more View Askew movies “at a certain price” (Smith’s words), it would be Happy to have it.
