M&Ms are getting a little hotter. This week, M&Ms announced the appearance of Purple, the first-ever female M&M peanut candy character, and the first new character added to the brand’s candy lineup in a decade. According to M&M’s, Purple is designed to represent inclusivity and acceptance with personality known for self-expression, self-awareness, authenticity, and confidence all as part of its charm. The character is set to “help more people feel a sense of belonging” and is introduced with a new song, “I’m Just Gonna Be Me,” which you can check out the music video for below.

Along with Purple’s debut, “I’m Just Gonna Be Me” will be available on all major music streaming platforms and for each stream of the song, one dollar (up to five hundred thousand dollars) will be donated to sing for Hope, a non-profit organization Harnessing the power of the arts to bring hope, connection and purpose to millions of people around the world through music. The philanthropic aspect of Purple’s appearance is part of M&M’s FUNd, a global brand initiative that aims to track the brand’s impact on its mission to increase a sense of belonging for ten million people by 2025.
However, while Purple joins the speaker lineup, fans who hope to see the color pop in M&M candy bags may be a little disappointed. according to CNNWhile the character will appear in stores, on the website, and on some packages — and customers can purchase purple M&Ms online — the color will not join regular candy bags.
