With the shutdown of Google Stadia, those who still frequent the platform are left to weigh other options for where they will play their games. For those with Stadia libraries containing some Ubisoft titles, the publisher has good news. Ubisoft announced this week that it plans to offer Stadia users the opportunity to transfer their games from that platform to Ubisoft Connect where they can be played on PC.
The Ubisoft announcement was a bright spot for Stadia users amid the news of the shutdown and was shared on social media via Ubisoft support accounts. Ubisoft said it is working on Stadia-to-Ubisoft-Connect transfers and will have more details to share at a later time. These details will also go into what will happen to people who have signed up for Ubisoft+ and played on Stadia.
“While Stadia will close on January 18, 2023, we are pleased to share that we are working to bring the games you own on Stadia to PC through Ubisoft Connect,” the Ubisoft support team said. “We will have more to share regarding specific details as well as the impact on Ubisoft+ subscribers at a later date.”
Although Google Stadia didn’t last long enough to build many meaningful memories about the platform, those who remember its early stages may remember that it was Ubisoft that partnered with Google to allow people to test the platform. This early iteration of Google Stadia’s streaming-based gameplay allowed people to play originally titled “Project Stream” Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Free via Google Chrome browsers.

Stadia’s shutdown was followed by rumors that the service would soon end, rumors that were reprimanded by Google before the news was finally confirmed. In the announcement confirming the end of Stadia, Stadia Vice President and General Manager Phil Harrison said Stadia had not gained a meaningful audience to keep it afloat.
“A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia,” Harrison said. “And while Stadia’s approach to consumer game streaming has been built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained as much traction with users as we had expected, so we made the difficult decision to start ending Stadia’s streaming service.”
Google Stadia will end on January 18, 2023.
