AJ McKee survives the wild Spike Carlyle at Bellator 286

AJ McKee and Spike Carlyle clashed in the Bellator 286 joint main event.

The Bellator 286 co-main event saw AJ McKee and Spike Carlyle engage in a fight that can only be described as frenetic. Carlisle, who lost 0.6 pounds, was looking for some justice with the win. Coming out to the Hulk Hogan Real American team, it seemed like he was going to go all the way. Mackie, who lost the featherweight championship to Patricio “Pitbull” Freire in his last fight, wanted to have a good outing to prove he was still a title contender.

Round one saw Mackie and Carlisle head off at a frantic pace, with both men going to meltdown early and often. The fight hit the ground running as McKee seemed to be in control of a large portion of the round.

In the second, the two slowed down a bit, but Carlyle was still aggressive until Carlyle took a left from Mackie. Mackie then sank into a decent choke but Carlisle was able to survive, and despite eating some good shots, Mackie had good control. Carlisle hit a hard kick but McKee responded, hitting even after the bell.

Carlisle, exhausted in the third round, started throwing again but Mackie was able to avoid any big hits and bring down Carlisle, going four-for-four at that point. Mackie was able to control the rest of the round, but Carlisle didn’t make it easy for Mackie.

Mckee earned the win by unanimous decision.

AJ McKee should be next on his wanted list.

Maki must now be in line for a chance at the tournament. Whether Patrio is the current featherweight champion as of this writing, his opponent Adam Bureks, lightweight champion Patrick Freire, Patriko’s brother, or rival Osman Nurmagomedov. McKee has more than earned the right to be his next fight for a title, regardless of whether it’s at 155 or 145.
